Wet Rot, tends to grow on porous surfaces with a high moisture content.
Wet rot can cause major structural problems.
Wet rot cannot spread through masonry and will stop growing when moisture is taken away
Dry Rot
Dry rot still needs moisture to grow but not as much as Wet rot, it is a fungus that can spread through walls to a joining rooms.
Therefore needs more attention when dealing with this as surrounding areas need to be exposed and sterilised.
Wood worm
Woodworm, is a generic term, there are more than one species, it is the wood eating larvae that cause structural damage.
Signs of Woodworm are small holes around 1 mm to 2 mm in diameter and if are live should have a tell tale sign of powdered wood near the infected area.
Woodworm can spread through old or untreated timbers.
